Brass/Wood Harbor Master Telescope 60"

The Hampton Nautical 60” Brass Telescope with a wood handle is a beautiful brass refractor telescope mounted on a wooden tripod. This telescope is a fully functioning nautical masterpiece that adds class and sophistication to any room it’s in. This is a perfect gift for the nautical explorer. The main scope is solid brass with a smooth polished wood handle. Focusing is accomplished by adjusting the eyepiece ring on the telescope tube, with up to 12x magnification. A removable brass cap, connected by a chain, protects the objective lens.

The wooden tripod stand features smooth, polished round legs, each with solid brass fittings and a screw release to let you adjust the height. A solid brass chain holds the three wooden legs together so the telescope can maintain its position.

Custom engraving is available on this solid brass telescope with a minimum order quantity. Please contact us for details.

Additional Information

Following the Renaissance era in Europe, with the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution spurring both creativity and science, the antique nautical telescope or spyglass as it were, came to spread throughout the continent. By 1758 the achromatic lens was being used, greatly reducing color aberrations, or blurriness, while providing greater magnification in nautical telescopes. Using two distinct lenses back to back, images became much clearer, and as a result it became possible to design nautical telescopes of a manageable size, much as the ones we see today. As the earliest telescopes were a key piece in defining the Scientific Revolution, these new models would come to define the Age of Sail. Using the newest lenses, and with the manufacturing capabilities of an industrialized Europe, nautical telescopes became a fundamental tool of sailing, both in military and pirate actions. Each of these antique telescopes for sale uses the same technology that abounded through Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, practically unchanged in three hundred years.
